Method 1: Shutdown the Startup Boost

A startup boost enhances the speed of the browser’s launch. However, it also means that there are some Edge processes that run persistently in the background even after one shuts the browser.

It is worth turning off this setting because thus you release the processes on your computer for other tasks. It is also important to address high memory/CPU usage problems in Edge.

Step 1: To perform the steps mentioned in this document, open Microsoft Edge on your computer.

Step 2: On the menu bar, you shall select the three-dot icon and then go to settings.

Step 3: Inside the Task Manager interface, go to the left pane and click on the System and Performance option then turn off the Startup Boost on the right pane.

    Method 2: Efficient Power Mode

That is when you set the efficiency mode on Microsoft Edge you are certain the browser is not wasting any of the available system resources.

This is useful for old PCs or laptops that have limited disk space or RAM and hungry applications, it would make those run faster and utilize less battery power.

Step 1: Open the Microsoft Edge browser.

Step 2: Click on the three-dot icon which appears on the right side at the top of the screen > select Settings.

Step 3: Restart. On the left side of the screen, click System, and on the right side, under Optimize Performance, make sure Efficiency mode is deselected.

Method 3: Use Sleeping Tabs to Save Resources

It has another concept known as Edge Sleeping Tabs whereby the program puts inactive tabs to sleep in order to free up the system resources.

It also helps when one needs a quick browser that can help you increase the speed of Edge. Below, please find the action plan.

Step 1: Launch the Microsoft Edge browser and move towards its settings section as described above.

Step 2: Open the left pane and then click on System and Performance; turn off Save resources with sleeping tabs in the right section of Optimize Performance.

Method 4: Option to Adjust the Time taken by Inactive tabs until they automatically go to sleep

Initially, tabs that are inactive will be placed on stand by after one and a half hours. At the same time, however, they are consuming system resources and degrading your old computers as they attempt to open multiple tabs and multiple applications.

You may reduce this sleep time to improve your computer’s performance by following these steps:

Step 1: let’s get to a place where we can see your device in operation. Step 1: Launch the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.

Step 2: At the top right side of the pagemore you will see a sets of 3 dots, click on it and then click on settings.

Step 3: On the left pane, click on System and Performance; here, on the right side, you select from the dropdown list that is next to Put inactive tabs to sleep after in order to determine how long the tabs will sleep.

Note: Unfortunately, you can only disable this option if you turn off Efficiency mode on the cell phone.

Method 5: Enabling efficiency mode while gaming

If you are into browser games, you can use this Microsoft Edge setting to ensure that the browser optimizes the power utilization.

However, what is great for your computer’s health is that you may find a few speed issues while surfing the web.

Step 1: The first step that need to be followed is to launch the Microsoft Edge browser on the computer.

Step 2: Click the ellipsis at the top right corner and get into settings.

Step 3: In the lefthand pane, click on System and Performance and check the box next to Improve your PC gaming experience with efficiency mode on the righthand side.

Method 6: Undertake routine deletion of browsing history and data

Clearing browser data will increase Edge’s speed, and the performance will be much higher on slow machines. It is a great rectification in case your browser becomes slow.

When clearing the cookies and browsing history, some important data that are sometimes crucial to be removed include the history, cookies and other site data, and cached images and files. Follow these steps:

Step 1: The first step to perform this process is on the computer, open the use Microsoft Edge browser.

Step 2: Type the path below in the address bar and hit Enter

    edge://settings/clearBrowserData

Step 3: After entering all the information mark all the boxes that are required and click on ‘Clear now’.

    Method 7: Disable unused Plugins

Browser extensions can greatly improve your browsing abilities and use up the systems resources. In systems that have lower specifications this leads to resource consumption that affects the overall performance.

When, for unknown reasons, certain extensions are not running, a user is likely to see less CPU usage, shorter page load time and increased stability.

Step 1: First, Switch on your computer and launch the Microsoft Edge browser.

Step 2: Input the path below in the address bar and hit the Enter key

    edge://extensions/

Step 3: Thesly, right click the unwanted extension from the list and click the Remove option.

Method 8: Management of the unnecessary tabs

Clustering and disorganization are two issues that several tabs might bring about and even though they are a giant resource hog.

They will often be seen as separate processes which take up your memory most of the time. You should minimize all the sessions you do not need anymore through the X that is found at the corners of the tabs.
